St. Louis Artist Fern K. Taylor takes art into a whole new realm with her highly acclaimed paintings that boast rich textures and vibrant colors. "Even as a child I loved art. I sold my first painting at the age of five. Trained in printmaking techniques, I found what would fulfill me - a full time art career. The choice has proved to be a good one so far.  After much experimentation, I discovered the secrets of aquatinting; it soon became my favorite printmaking technique. I like working with black and white tones. Although it takes twice as long to develop your tones with aquatinting, your finished work can be so rewarding.

I have participated in many solo and group exhibitions, including exhibits by the Print Club in Philadelphia, PA and the St. Louis Artist Guild. I won numerous awards in different mediums. I have always found it easy to express myself through art. People are ordinarily my favorite subjects; I love to display them with impassive expressions utilizing subtle colors to depict placid moods. I convey my ideas in whatever medium that's appropriate, whether it's an etching, pastel drawing, or an acrylic painting. Each medium can be used in distinctive ways without compromising my style.

My work over the past five years has consisted primarily of series of acrylic paints and a small group of screen designs. My painting process begins with a photograph; from there I take the image from the photograph and add brilliant colors until the image is soothing to your soul.
